Next Sunday, February 9th, 2025, Super Bowl LIX will be held on the premises of the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles for the national title. For some, this will be marked as a “rematch” as this is the second time both teams will meet for a  Super Bowl within the last two years.  In 2023, the Chiefs took home the victory after a tight game that ended in a three-point difference, 38 to 35.

The NFL is no stranger to the “NOLA” area, as it will be the 8th Super Bowl to be played in the Superdome and the 11th in all of New Orleans. FOX will televise the game, while Tubi and NFL+ will also stream it for fans worldwide. According to most sports experts, the Chiefs are favored to win by 1.5 in this matchup,  yet that isn’t stopping some from believing otherwise.

When asking Jossiah Vinson, a student at Norfolk State University (NSU), about how he feels concerning the upcoming matchup he expressed, “I wish they both could lose as I don’t want to see either of them play, but if I had to pick I would pick the Eagles to root for.”

Many have taken to social media to express the same frustration. Kansas City has earned its third straight AFC championship which is why some fans have a lack of excitement for the matchup and would rather see some fresh faces.

The Chiefs have been to the Super Bowl six times in their NFL history and out of those six, four of these occurrences have been since 2020. Between the “Taylor Swift Effect” stemming from her relationship with player Travis Kelce, and the consistent upsets throughout this season, other football fans are ready to see another team take home the win.

Vinson also added that he believes if the Eagles continue to utilize RB, Saquon Barkley during handoffs,  they are guaranteed to win because “he is quite hard to stop,” once in action.

“For the last couple of years, they [the Eagles] could not get over the hump without a star player but seemed to skyrocket once they got Saquon. I hope that he finally keeps the Chiefs from winning again and having a three-peat in championships,” he says.

When talking to Christian Baker, another NSU student, he stated that the odds will always be in favor of Mahomes regardless of what the Eagles have to offer.

Adding, “You can just simply not bet against Mahomes and even the stakes are on their side.” Going deeper into this Baker mentioned,

“The Chiefs are going to win… the Eagles are going to run but they cannot out-throw Patrick Mahomes and they play within a stronger conference. The Lions were hurt, and the Commanders were a young team while the best of the three teams in the NFL are in the AFC conference. The best teams in the NFL go to the Chiefs, Bills, Ravens, and then Eagles,” he explains.

As football fans across the nation gear up for this infamous showdown, a lot of eyes will be on both sides, yet the question that remains for most will be; “Will history repeat itself, or will the Eagles come out on top?”
