Actress Aba Arthur is Back on the Big Screen, Now with a Touch of Purple!

Aba Arthur, the talented actress hailing from DC, is once again gracing the big screen, this time in the production of ‘The Color Purple.’ Renowned for her previous role in Black Panther, Aba steps into the history-making Color Purple remake, embodying the character of Abena.

In an exclusive interview with The Spartan Echo, Aba opens up about the process of auditioning for this reimagined classic. She reminisces about her time working alongside the legendary Oprah Winfrey, who played a pivotal role in mentoring her for this role.

Aba expresses deep appreciation for Oprah’s influence on set, acknowledging that she never expected her opportunity to collaborate with Oprah would arrive so early.

She stated ” ‘Oprah was better than I thought—so kind, generous, and a great journalist. Speaking with her, I’ve looked up to her my entire life.’ 

Despite her experience in the industry,  over two decades of dedication, Aba hasn’t been immune to the challenges in the entertainment world. She shares how close she came to quitting on eight different occasions, citing industry strikes and the impact of COVID-19 as major hurdles.

Aba’s co-star, Taraji P. Henson, has been an outspoken advocate for fair compensation in the industry, particularly for actors of color. Aba stands in solidarity with Taraji, recognizing the need for change while acknowledging  the industry’s processes.

Reflecting on her transformative experience on the set of Black Panther, a film that shifted the culture, Aba shares her initial shock upon joining the legendary cast.

The news of Chadwick Boseman’s passing, Aba Arthur shares moments of sadness and continued prayers for his family. Addressing rumors of recasting Black Panther, she emphasized , “There is no Black Panther without Chadwick. No one is him, and nobody will ever be him.”

In addition to her acting, Aba wears the hat of a producer, managing her own production company. When asked about her future film aspirations, she reveals her dream of starring in the new Sister Act 2.

Aba drops an exclusive announcement about her upcoming project, ‘Bad Monkey,’ a series set to premiere exclusively on Apple TV+. The show features none other than Vince Vaughn, promising a captivating viewing experience.
