Board of Visitors holds line on tuition costs, sets budget

The Norfolk State University Board of Visitors held its final board meeting of the 2018-2019 academic year on Friday, May 3, and voted on several actions that included the University’s operating budget, tuition for 2019-20, a new faculty senate representative and the approval of candidates for promotion and tenure.

The board voted to keep tuition at the same rates as the previous academic year for both in-state and out-of-state undergraduate students. The tuition for an in-state undergraduate student on campus will be $5,752. The tuition for an out-of-state student will be $16, 920. Norfolk State University remains one of the most affordable four-year institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The board also approved the university’s operating budget for the 2019-20 academic year. The budget was set at $190 million.

In addition, the board also elected Dr. Anne Fernando, associate professor in the NSU Department of Mathematics, as the faculty senate representative for the 2019-20 academic year. The full board also congratulated BOV Member Dr. Ann Adams for her service on the NSU Board of Visitors. Her term expires at the end of June.
