250 Young Democrats, local, state and national political leaders to attend
Norfolk, VA – The Virginia Young Democrats will host a historic annual convention, April 5-7, 2019 in Norfolk. Hampton Roads Young Democrats, Norfolk State University Young Democrats, and Old Dominion University Democrats are co-hosts for the convention that will attract 250 Young Democrats, between the ages of 13 and 35. During the event, convening on NSU’s campus for the first time in the organization’s 86-year history, VAYD members will elect leaders for the next year, learn from community leaders, and highlight outstanding young democrats.
“Virginia Young Democrats’ annual convention is a time for our members to network, recharge and celebrate our accomplishments. Over the last year, the executive board set a higher standard for our organization by creating new policies to welcome gender nonbinary people and undocumented immigrants, establishing a new scholarship program for young leadership development, paying a team of GOTV interns, and reaching out to 367,990 voters in the general election,” VAYD President Alexsis Rodgers said. “Virginia Young Democrats’ leadership is a model for the state party overall. Moving forward in 2019 as Democrats work to flip both chambers of the Virginia General Assembly, we must do so in a way that brings in those voices that have too often been left out and silenced.”
