Motorcyclist suffers life threatening injuries in morning crash

NORFOLK, Va. – (NPD) The Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team is investigating a motor vehicle accident that left a motorcyclist in serious condition.

Shortly before 7:20 a.m. Monday morning, Sept. 25, police were called to the 7000 block of Granby Street for an accident involving a motorcycle and a Honda sedan.  When police and paramedics arrived, they found an adult man lying in the street with serious injuries.

Paramedics quickly transported the man to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation has revealed a Honda sedan was traveling northbound on Granby Street and attempted to make a left turn across Granby Street’s southbound lanes.  The Honda pulled into oncoming traffic and was incidentally struck by a motorcyclist that was traveling southbound on Granby.  The motorcyclist was ejected from his bike and is currently listed in critical condition.  The driver of the Honda was uninjured and remained at the scene for first responders’ arrival.

Southbound lanes on Granby Street (from Thole Street to Sinclair Street) are closed at this time, as the Traffic Fatality Team continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this accident.

Charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation.

There were no other occupants in the Honda and no other injuries were reported.
