NORFOLK, Va. – For the second consecutive year, Norfolk State University will host a National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) Drive for Diversity Pit Crew Recruitment Tour combine for NSU student-athletes. This year’s combine takes place from noon until approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26 at Echols Hall.
NSU is one of six universities, including a number of historically black colleges and universities, to serve as a stop on this year’s recruitment tour. The NASCAR Drive for Diversity Crew Member Development Program seeks minority male and female athletes from all sports with a general interest in motorsports, extreme sports, the auto industry and individuals who possess a strong sense of character and work ethic. At the combines, these athletes are challenged with drills that showcase their flexibility, agility and strength.
Selected athletes are offered an invitation to the national training combine to be part of NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity Crew Member Development Training Program, located in Charlotte, N.C. Last year, three Spartans who participated at the combine at NSU were invited to the training program. Former NSU women’s basketball player Brehanna Daniels and football player Lamar Neal completed the program and have already pitted for professional races this season.
Participation is open to current NSU seniors and former student-athletes. All student-athletes interested in participating should contact Alisha Tucker at firstname.lastname@example.org to secure a spot. For additional information, visit revracing.net.
