Shackleford selected Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management

Dr. Michael M. Shackleford has been named the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management effective immediately. Dr. Shackleford has been with Norfolk State University staff since January 2016. He brings to the position a wealth of experience, knowledge and leadership in both student affairs and enrollment management.

At Virginia State University, he served as the enrollment manager for 16 years. Concurrently during his tenure as the chief enrollment person, he also served as the chief student affairs officer for 10 years, including five years as Vice President for Student Affairs. In that role, he implemented a student-centered philosophy in helping students realize their social growth and professional potential.

While serving as Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management at Norfolk State University, Dr. Shackleford has been instrumental in the University’s commitment to strategically grow enrollment. Also, during his time here, Dr. Shackleford has been serving as Interim Vice President for Student Affairs before assuming this new role. As part of his new assignment, he will lead both the enrollment management and student affairs operations while the University transitions into the future.

Dr. Shackleford earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia State College in Business Administration, MBA from Florida Institute of Technology, and Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Administration from George Washington University.  A distinguished military graduate, he was commissioned into the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant and retired after 24 years of service.  While in the Army, Dr. Shackleford served as an assistant professor at the U.S. Army Military Academy (West Point) and professor of military science at Virginia State University.
