NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State junior Alex Mauricio was selected as the MEAC Baseball Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced on Monday.
Mauricio went 7-for-13 (.538) with a home run, three RBI and four runs scored as the Spartans went 3-1 last week. Mauricio had a pair of three-hit games, going 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs in last Monday’s 7-5 win at Coppin State, and also batting 3-for-3 with a solo homer in Saturday’s loss to Delaware State. Mauricio, who played first base, second base, DH and also pitched last week, also stole two bases during the four games.
For the season, Mauricio is 10th in the MEAC and first among the Spartans’ regulars with a .347 batting average. He has eight doubles, two triples, one homer and 11 RBI. On the mound, Mauricio is 2-3 with a 4.31 ERA and is second among conference pitchers with 42 strikeouts.
Mauricio and the Spartans (14-14, 9-3 MEAC North) host William & Mary at 5 p.m. Wednesday before welcoming Maryland Eastern Shore for a three-game MEAC divisional series on Friday and Saturday.
