Lee wins again for men’s track and field at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Norfolk State junior Chris Lee claimed first in the shot put for the second weekend in a row as the Spartans competed Saturday at the Liberty University Kickoff Meet.

Lee, the reigning MEAC Field Athlete of the Week following his win at CNU last weekend, needed his sixth and final throw on Saturday to earn his second straight victory. Lee overtook South Carolina State’s Anthony Britt on that final throw, which traveled 54 feet, 2.5 inches.

In other field events, freshman Garth Warner was the top collegiate finisher and second overall in the high jump. Warner cleared 6 feet, 10.25 inches, his second-best height of the indoor season. Fellow freshman Jacob Milton tied for fifth at 6-6.25.

Da’Trail Hockaday also earned a top-10 finish in the field with his sixth-place showing in the weight throw (46-00.75).

Lee accounted for NSU’s only event victory, but a number of Spartans fared well on the track. In the 200 meters, Rashad Ramsey, Michael-Thomas Brown and Allan Frye all won their heats. Ramsey placed third overall in 21.86 seconds, while Brown was seventh in 21.92. Frye clocked a time of 22.13.

Ramsey also won his heat in the 400 meters, finishing eighth in 49.26. Freshman Jaylen Banks was close behind in ninth after winning his heat in 49.56 seconds.

In the mile, junior Haileyesus Demsie was victorious in his section, posting a time of 4 minutes, 27.17 seconds.

The Spartans continue their indoor season next week at the Penn State National.
