NSU cancels classes, registration and basketball games for Saturday; closed Sunday through Tuesday, registration to be extended

Due to the forecast of the impending snow storm, Norfolk State University canceled classes, registration and home basketball games scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 7. The university will also be closed Sunday through Tuesday. The university is requesting that all essential personnel still report to work in order to properly service on campus resident students.

In a statement released to students, faculty and staff on Friday, Jan. 6, the university said “This storm has the potential to be a crippling snow event across potions of the Tidewater and Hampton Roads in regards to travel. The combination of cold temperatures and heavy wet snow would result in dangerous travel Saturday and even into Sunday.”

The university extended cancellations on Saturday morning to include Sunday and Monday.

On Monday evening, Jan. 9, those cancellations were extended to include Tuesday; the university said it would resume normal operations on Wednesday.

The Spartan Echo has learned that registration will be extended to Friday, Jan. 13; however, the university has not officially released a statement on that extension.

The university also encouraged people to monitor news, radio and their Everbridge notification system for further university updates.
