Norfolk prepares for winter storm

NORFOLK, VA – The City of Norfolk is opening three garages to provide residents a place to park their vehicles during the upcoming snow.  Residents who normally park on the street are encouraged to use these garages in order for City plows to easily clear roadways of snow:

  • Waterside Garage – 50 Martin’s Lane
  • Boush St. Garage – 112 West City Hall Ave
  • York St. Garage – 215 W. York Street

The garages will open at 6:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, and remain open until Monday, Jan. 9, at 6:00 a.m.  Drivers will take a ticket upon entry but the exit gates will remain open.

City crews will begin treating the roads Friday in anticipation of the weekend’s winter weather.  Public Works crews will work extended shifts throughout the weekend. Once snow begins to accumulate, crews will begin plowing more than 350 lane miles of primary routes simultaneously across the city.  A complete list of the snow removal routes is on the front page of the Norfolk’s city website at www.norfolk.gov.

Residents are encouraged to look out for their neighbor, especially the elderly or those needing special assistance.

Norfolk residents can subscribe to Norfolk Alert to receive text or email weather-related updates.  To subscribe, go to the front page of the city’s website at www.norfolk.gov
