NORFOLK, Va. – Basketball season is just more than one week away, and Norfolk State announced Thursday its first two promotions for its home men’s and women’s basketball contests in November. The Nov. 13 men’s game against Shenandoah University has been designated Youth Day, and the Nov. 15 doubleheader has been tabbed Ladies Night.
When the Spartan men play the first game of the season in Echols Hall against Shenandoah at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, NSU is inviting all Hampton Roads youth organizations to participate in a community service initiative to help provide meals to families in need. Youth in attendance will be invited to assist the NSU Department of Athletics in collecting non-perishable food items to donate to the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.
Following the game, the youth organizations in attendance will have the opportunity to get autographs from the Spartan men’s basketball team. Admission is $5 for youth ages 7-17, and children under the age of 7 will be admitted free of charge. Groups of 10 or more are asked to register ahead of time by calling (757) 823-8152.
On Tuesday, Nov. 15, NSU will host a doubleheader beginning with a women’s contest against St. Augustine’s at 5:30 p.m. and a men’s game against Elizabeth City State beginning at 8 p.m. There will be a pre-game reception with refreshments for all ladies beginning at 4 p.m. at Echols Hall, and free gift bags to the first 100 ladies in attendance. There will also be several vendors in attendance as well as on-court activities for the ladies in attendance.
For more information, call the Department of Athletics at (757) 823-8152.
