Higgins places seventh at CNU Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Candice Higgins finished in seventh 7th place to pace the Norfolk State women’s cross country team on Saturday at the Christopher Newport Invitational. She has been the fastest Spartan in each meet this season.

The Spartans placed fourth out of the four Division I teams competing at the meet. VCU won the women’s race with 22 points, followed by William and Mary with 42, Hampton with 86 and NSU with 90.

Higgins finished the 6,000-meter course in 22 minutes, 57 seconds. Ashah Koech placed 18th in a time of 24:22.00.

Freshman Caroline Samoei was the Spartans’ third finisher, placing 20th (24:31.00). She was followed by Linei Woodson in 25th (25:11) and Nelly Jerop in 28th (26:09).

Norfolk State will enjoy a week off from competition before traveling to Smyrna, Del., on Oct. 29 to compete at the MEAC Championship hosted by Delaware State.
