Lawmakers to hold meeting to discuss upcoming election

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia lawmakers are planning to hold a meeting to discuss the upcoming election with the commissioner of the Virginia Department of Elections and local registrars.

The joint meeting of the Privileges and Elections Committees will be held Oct. 13.

Republican lawmakers say some local registrars are concerned about a backlog of voter registrations and absentee ballot applications, among other things.

Republicans also want to talk to Elections Commissioner Edgardo Cortes about recent reports of potential voter fraud.

Harrisonburg officials recent told news outlets that about 20 voter applications in Virginia were recently sent in under the names of dead people. Registrar Debbie Logan said investigators have found 18 to 20 potentially fraudulent registrations.
