NSU cross country competes at George Mason invitational Saturday

NSU cross country competes at George Mason invitational Saturday

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men’s and women’s cross country teams will be back in action this Saturday when they will run in the George Mason Invitational at the Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va.

This will be the longest distance for both teams so far this season. The women’s 6-kilometer race begins at 10 a.m., and the men’s 8K race begins at 10:45 a.m.

The women competed at the East Carolina Pirate Invitational last Friday. NSU sophomore Candice Higgins has paced the Spartans in both races this season. She earned top-10 finishes in both events this season.

Six teams will compete in the women’s event at George Mason, including the Spartans and host GMU. American, Christendom College, Kent State and Mount St. Mary’s will be the other participants.

The men are coming off a victory at the ECU Pirate Invitational last Friday. NSU finished with 23 points. Freshman Felix Kiprotich has finished first overall at each of the last two events. Junior Ronald Korir has finished in second overall in each of the three NSU meets this season, behind freshman Festus Bett at U.Va. and behind Kiprotich the last two weeks.

Eight teams will compete in the women’s event, including the Spartans and host George Mason. American, Bowie State, Christendom College, Kent State, Mount St. Mary’s and the Naval Academy will be the other participants
