GWYNN, Va. (AP) — U.S. Coast Guard members have rescued a woman and her three grandchildren off Gwynn Island in Mathews County.
The U.S. Coast Guard says in a statement that the 58-year-old woman and the children became fatigued Sunday afternoon while swimming near their jet ski.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads launched a small response boat at 4:44 p.m. from Coast Guard Station Milford Haven. Responders found the group in the water, and all four people were wearing life jackets.
The children were able to swim back to the jet ski, but the woman was “short of breath.”
The crew retrieved the four from the water and brought them back to the station by 4:55 p.m.
Paramedics did evaluations on shore.
