Moped rider dies in crash on Ballentine Boulevard in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. – A man died Thursday morning in a crash at Ballentine Boulevard and East Princess Anne Road, when his moped collided with a Jeep Cherokee.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene around 6:10 a.m. this morning.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the Jeep was attempting a left turn onto Ballentine northbound, when it collided with the moped in the intersection.

The moped rider, whose name will not be released until his family has been notified, died at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep, who was not injured, stayed at the crash scene. There were no other vehicles involved and no other injuries reported.

As the Traffic Fatality Team continues to investigate, they expect the intersection to be closed until 11 a.m.

Once the fatality team completes their investigation, their findings will be turned over to the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for review, and determination of any charges.

There is no further information available for release at this time.
