NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomore Dajana Cvjetkovic of the Norfolk State women’s tennis team was honored by the conference office on Wednesday morning when she was named the MEAC Player of the Week.

NSU competed just once last week, and on Sunday the Spartans came away with a 4-1 win over Longwood at the NSU Tennis Complex. Cvjetkovic, a native of Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles over Fallon Burger. She helped the Spartans rally after dropping the doubles point and was one of four players for NSU to claim a victory in singles to close out the match.

The Lancers had won the regular season meeting in each of the last five seasons.

It marks the first time this season an NSU women’s player claimed the player of the week award from the MEAC.

Norfolk State, 4-0 in conference play, can claim the MEAC Northern Division title with a win over UMES on Wednesday at 3 p.m. followed by a victory over Morgan State at 3 p.m. on Saturday, both matches at home. The Spartans also own a 7-9 overall record so far this year.
