NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State baseball seniors Kyle Vaas and Matt Outman picked up MEAC weekly honors for their performances in Sunday’s, April 11,  doubleheader sweep of Delaware State.

Vaas, the Spartans’ designated hitter, was chosen as MEAC Co-Player of the Week, while Outman was named MEAC Pitcher of the Week.

Vaas batted 4-for-7 (.571) Sunday against the Hornets with two doubles, one triple, four runs batted in and two runs scored. Vaas, who had two hits in each game, had the go-ahead two-run triple in the second game of the doubleheader. He raised his team-leading average to .368 in the process. Vaas shared the MEAC award with Bethune-Cookman outfielder Nathan Bond.

Outman tossed a three-hit, complete-game shutout in the opener of the doubleheader. Outman (4-2) walked two batters and struck out seven in throwing his second shutout of the year, but first of the nine-inning variety. He improved to 4-2 with the win and moved into sole possession of fourth place in school history with 20 career pitching victories.

This is the first time Vaas has earned a weekly MEAC award in his career. Outman was named MEAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year and fifth time in his career.
