Norfolk State University’s Ice Cream Social on Thursday, March 31, was an event to recognize and congratulate faculty and staff for their efforts in improving customer service on campus. The social also introduced a new program that will be implemented on campus entitled: The Spartan Star Customer Service Recognition Program. Norfolk State’s faculty and staff were recognized for their customer service from July 2015- January 2016. The staff and faculty that were honored have shown that they are taking the initiative to improve customer service at Norfolk State.

President and CEO Eddie N. Moore, Jr. gave a speech at the event to praise and also encourage the staff and faculty for a job well done. He mentioned that many students on campus have complained about the service they have received and, because of this reason, it is imperative that this program be put into place. He said the program will ensure continuous improvement for the University. President Moore wants the faculty and staff to make it their mission to “strive for 10” with everyone they come in contact with, meaning that they should give their best service possible at all times.

The Spartan Star Customer Service Recognition Program will be implemented April 1. A customer service website will be created customers to nominate a faculty or staff member for recognition for a Spartan Star Award. An employee who wins the Employee of the Quarter award will win prizes. Employees who have won Employee of the Quarter will have a chance to compete for Spartan Star of the Year and they will be awarded $500, a plaque recognizing their achievement, and receive Norfolk State paraphernalia. The Customer Service Satisfaction survey is always on the Norfolk State University website for any students, faculty, or staff member to complete at any time.

Through efforts like these, Norfolk State University hopes to demonstrate that it is continuing to strive for excellence.
