PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) — Officials say a teenager has been seriously injured after he fell through the roof of a Portsmouth middle school.
Multiple media outlets report the incident happened Wednesday night at William E. Waters Middle School.
Portsmouth police say officers were called to the school after a burglar alarm went off just before 8:30 p.m.
Detective Misty Holley says arriving officers found the 14-year-old boy on the gym floor and realized he had fallen through the roof.
Holley says the child was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
She says further investigation revealed that there was more than one juvenile on the roof. She couldn’t say why they were up there or how many there might have been.
No charges were filed as of Wednesday night.
