Man gets 7 years in crash that killed woman, daughter

STAUNTON, Va. (AP) — A driver who ran a red light and crashed into a vehicle, killing a Waynesboro woman and her daughter, has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

The News Leader (http://bit.ly/21wLaxV ) reports that Kenneth L. Barber received his punishment Thursday in Augusta County Circuit Court.

The 61-year-old defendant was intoxicated on April 20, 2015, when he drove through a red light outside of Staunton and slammed into a car driven by 44-year-old Sandra L. Martin. The crash killed her and her 12-year-old daughter, Haylee Martin.

Barber pleaded guilty in December to two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter.

At his sentencing, Barber expressed remorse for his actions.
