NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Sentara Norfolk General Hospital officials have announced plans for a $199 million expansion and renovation.
The hospital says in a news release that the five-year project will begin in March. The project includes adding three floors to two wings and expanding and modernizing the emergency department, which includes the region’s only Level 1 trauma center.
Eighteen operating rooms will be expanded and updated, and the neonatal intensive care unit will be replaced.
Sentara says the work is expected to affect traffic flow on the medical campus, which accommodates up to 18,000 cars, trucks, buses and ambulances a day.
The 525-bed hospital shares a campus with Eastern Virginia Medical School and Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters.
