NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State bowling team is currently ranked 18th in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association top 25 poll released late last week.
The Spartans garnered 200 points, ahead of No. 19 Saint Francis Brooklyn (185 points) but behind No. 17 Valparaiso (225). NSU currently owns a 36-22 record on the season, including 13-3 in the MEAC.
Norfolk State is also one of five teams from the MEAC with a current standing in the poll, which moved to a top-25 ranking this year after previously naming just the top-20 teams. North Carolina A&T sits the highest at 10th, following by Delaware State (11th), UMES (13th), NSU and Bethune-Cookman (24th).
The Spartans were originally ranked 20th this year in the preseason voting before moving up to a tie for 17th in December’s poll.
Arkansas State rounded up 26 of the 31 first-place votes to lead this month’s poll. Nebraska and Vanderbilt also garnered first-place mentions to sit second and third, respectively, while Sam Houston State and Central Missouri round out the top 5.
After its last tournament was cancelled, NSU will return to action for the first time in nearly a month when the Spartans take part in the Trojan Classic hosted by Virginia State this Friday through Sunday in Richmond, Va.
