Coles, Carr finish in top 5 in 200 Meters at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Norfolk State University sprinters Steve Coles and Jaylen Carr both placed in the top five in the 200 meters to highlight the Spartan men’s track and field team’s efforts at the Penn State National over the weekend.

Coles, competing in the invitational section of the 200 meters, ran his second-fastest time of the season, 21.33 seconds, to take second in his heat and fourth overall in the tougher section of the 200m. Carr, competing in the second section of the 200 meters, ran an indoor PR of 21.82 seconds to win his heat and place second in his event.

Coles also ran a leg on the Spartans’ 4×400 meter relay team which recorded its best time of the indoor season. Coles, Xavier Collins, Justin Pinder and Allan Frye ran a time of 3 minutes, 16.52 seconds, good for second in their heat and fifth overall.

In the 60-meter hurdles, both Frye and Marcus Anderson advanced to the semifinal round before falling short of the finals in a stacked field. Frye posted a time of 8.15 seconds to finish 11th in the semifinals.

The Spartans have their final tuneup before the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championship this weekend, when they compete at the Vince Brown Invitational at CNU.
