NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A jury has found a Norfolk man not guilty of dragging an officer with his own squad car.

The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/1ktjrQF ) reports a Norfolk Circuit Court jury found 31-year-old Marius Mitchell not guilty of charges including malicious wounding of a police officer and eluding police

Prosecutor Will Jamerson says Mitchell got into Neal Robertson’s patrol car trying to elude the officer after a traffic stop nearly three years ago. He says Robertson was dragged after his arm got trapped in the window. Jamerson says that’s when Robertson shot at Mitchell.

Defender Jennifer Dunne argued Mitchell was trying to escape a man chasing him with a gun.

This week’s trial also revealed that Robertson had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder before the incident.

Mitchell faced over 50 years in prison.
