Head of Portsmouth drug ring gets 30 years in prison

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The leader of a Portsmouth drug trafficking ring has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison.

The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/1RUgliH ) that 35-year-old Alonzo Outten was sentenced Wednesday for his role in the drug ring that put nearly 200 pounds of heroin on the streets in less than two years.

Outten pleaded guilty in July to one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin.

Court documents show that Outten’s organization brought raw heroin in from New York and prepared it for sale in Portsmouth. The documents detail more than three dozen drug buys involving Outten’s group.
