NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A former bookkeeper for the Norfolk Society for the Prevention of Cruelty has been sentenced to 4½ years in prison for embezzling more than $135,000.

The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/1M2PDkr ) that 44-year-old Kimberly A. Raeburn was sentenced Friday in Norfolk Circuit Court. She pleaded guilty in January to 10 counts of felony embezzlement.

According to court papers, Raeburn stole the money from January 2009 through July 2010. An audit determined that Raeburn’s deposits into her employer’s bank account were short of the amounts taken in by the organization’s veterinary clinic.

Court documents show Raeburn used some of the money to take a first-class trip to Las Vegas, fly her family into town for the holidays, buy a motorcycle for her then-boyfriend, and purchase appliances and televisions.
