NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A Hampton Roads gang leader has been sentenced to life in federal prison for drug and gun crimes.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that 32-year-old Christopher Smith of Portsmouth was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in Norfolk. Smith pleaded guilty in July to conspiracy to distribute narcotics and possession of a firearm in a drug-trafficking crime.
Prosecutors say Smith, who went by the nickname “Killa,” was the leader of the Imperial Gangsta Bloods, which distributed more than nine pounds of heroin in Hampton Roads.
Three of Smith’s associates also were sentenced Friday to prison terms ranging from 11 to 23 years.
