Worker injured in flash fire at Continental plant

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — Authorities say one worker has been injured in a flash fire at Continental Corporation’s plant in Newport News.

Newport News Fire Department battalion chief Stephen C. Pincus says the fire occurred Thursday morning in a lab area.

Pincus says in a news release that a male employee suffered burns. He was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was in stable condition.

Pincus says the plant’s fire suppression system extinguished the fire.

Investigators determined that the fire was accidental.
