NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Street performers in Norfolk will have to turn down the volume in the late-night and early morning hours.
A revised city ordinance restricts the volume generated by street performers between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. on weeknights and midnight and 7 a.m. on weekends.
A street performer is in violation of the ordinance if someone can hear them from 100 feet away or more.
The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/1KH1Dqf ) reports that the City Council unanimously approved the restriction earlier this month in response to complaints about a small group of drummers. There also were a few complaints about a couple of saxophone players.
Downtown resident Len Wright says he’s a fan of street musicians but that the drummers’ volume was invasive.
