Chesapeake man indicted for smuggling weapons silencers

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A 42-year-old Chesapeake man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for smuggling firearm silencers into the United States from Canada.

Benjamin Lloyd Fisher was indicted Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Fisher bought the silencers from someone in Canada. Authorities say they found six complete silencers and two silencer parts at Fisher’s home, as well as numerous weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Fisher was prohibited from possessing firearms because he was previously convicted of a domestic violence crime.

If convicted, Fisher faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. It wasn’t immediately clear whether Fisher had retained an attorney to comment on the charges.
