NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women’s cross country team competed in a pair of meets this weekend, placing fifth out of five teams Friday at William & Mary before bouncing back for a fifth-place finish out of nine teams on Saturday morning at the Cappy Anderson Invitational hosted by UMES.

On Friday, Rachel Webb paced the Spartans with a 28th-place finish in a 5K time of 20:38.57 at the Tribe Invitational. Fawzia Kheirwas NSU’s next-highest finisher, placing 39th in a time of 21:54.27. Jazmine Vaughan (48th), Courtney Kearse (50th) andShameeka Price-Cleare (51st) rounded out the top five for NSU, which tallied 133 points.

NSU fared much better on Saturday, led by Kheir’s best performance of the season. She finished 19th overall in a season-best 5K time of 19:33.81. Webb took 21st in 19:41.81, also a season-best time. They helped the Spartans finish ahead of four other teams: Delaware State (sixth), Coppin State (seventh), UDC (eighth) and Bowie State (ninth).

Navy won the Cappy Anderson Invitational with 15 points, finishing ahead of UMES, Morgan State, Seton Hall and NSU.

The Spartans are off next week before returning to action on Oct. 2 at the Delaware State Hornet Invitational.
