NORFOLK, Va. – For the third time in four years, the Norfolk State bowling team will compete in town on three different weekends as the 2015-16 schedule was released today by head coach Wilhelmenia Harrison.
The Spartans will once again host the Hampton Roads Invitational and one of the three MEAC Southern Divisionals. For the fourth year in a row, NSU will not have to travel out of town to compete in the MEAC Championship, slated for a late March date in Chesapeake.
It all begins on Oct. 24-25 when the Spartans host the Hampton Roads Invitational. NSU will hold the event for the sixth straight year at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake.
Norfolk State will not have to leave town for the next tournament on Nov. 14-15, because for the second straight year the Spartans will host the MEAC Southern Divisional. And for the second season in a row, NSU will hold the divisional at Spartan Lanes inside the Student Services Building on campus.
Before the turn of the calendar year, NSU will also compete in the UMES Hawk Classic from Nov. 20-22 and the MEAC Southern Divisional from Dec. 5-6 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
After the new year, the Spartans will start things off with the Lady Bulldog Classic hosted by Bowie State from Jan. 15-17. The following week on Jan. 22-24, NSU travels to Pennsylvania to take part in the Kutztown Invitational.
The Spartans will also participate in the Capital Classic hosted by Delaware State from Feb. 6-7 and in the third and final southern divisional from Feb. 27-28 in Tallahassee, Fla.
The USBC Intercollegiate Team Sectionals will take place March 12-13 at four different locations. The Spartans will learn at a later date in which of the four sectionals they will compete. From there, NSU returns home for the MEAC Championship from March 24-26 at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake. The Spartans advanced to the championship match last year before falling by a 4-3 score.
Should NSU qualify, the NCAA Championship will be held April 14-16 in North Brunswick, N.J., and the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championship will take place in Wichita, Kansas from April 20-23.
Specific starting times for each tournament will be announced closer to those tournament dates.
NSU returns just three players off last year’s team after losing five seniors following the 2014-15 season.
