NORFOLK, Va. – In conjunction with the AAU Junior Olympic Games coming to the Norfolk State campus in early August, NSU Athletics will host the 2015 Kenneth Giles AAU Track & Field Coaches Clinic on Sunday, August 2 at 9 a.m.
The event will take place in rooms 138 and 149 at the NSU Student Center and will feature Giles, the Director of Track & Field Programs at NSU, and Maurice Pierce, the Director of Track & Field Programs at Hampton.
The clinic is open to AAU coaches only. Registration is $30 by July 26 or $40 after that date, including walk-ups. The registration form can be downloaded here and returned to the address shown.
The clinic schedule will include breakout sessions from 9-11 a.m. and then again from 1:15-3 p.m. Lunch will take place from 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m., with a meet and greet from 12:30-1 p.m. There will be a break session on coaching track and field, as well as sports science sessions for the following: endurance events; speed, power events and relays; vertical jumps and hurdles; vertical jumps and long sprints; weight events; and pole vault.
The clinic is sponsored by the AAU Junior Olympic Games, the Hampton Roads Sports Commission and the Coach O foundation. It will coincide with the AAU track and field program “Motivate and Educate,” which allows fans and athletes the opportunity to learn more about the sport.
The 2015 AAU Junior Olympic Games will take place from July 29-August 8 at various locations in the Hampton Roads area. Norfolk State will host the track & field and multi-events at William “Dick” Price Stadium from Aug. 1-8. It will mark the fifth time hosting the event for NSU and the first since 2010. Nearly 10,000 athletes are expected to compete in the track and field portion of the Junior Olympics.
