WASHINGTON (AP) — The cast of Disney’s “Newsies” musical is hosting a dance workshop with Washington-area students at the Newseum.
The workshop Friday will include 200 students from Manassas Park Middle School in northern Virginia. It is part of Disney’s initiative to promote healthier lifestyles through the arts.
The Tony Award-winning “Newsies” will be at the National Theatre through June 21.
“Newsies” is set in New York City at the turn of the 20th century. It is inspired by the true story of the “Newsboy Strike of 1899” when a band of orphan and runaway newsboys led a two-week action against Joseph Pulitzer, William Randolph Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers. The publishing titans raised newspaper distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense.
