NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State football coach Latrell Scott announced Tuesday that transfer quarterback Greg Hankerson Jr. has signed a grant-in-aid agreement to play for the Spartans beginning this fall.
The 6-0, 185-pound Hankerson transfers to NSU from Division I FBS Florida Atlantic University of Conference USA. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
“We’re pleased to add Greg to our team,” Scott said. “He is a young man with game experience against BCS teams. We look forward to adding him to our stable of quarterbacks and creating competition at that position.”
Hankerson played in 16 games over the last two seasons for FAU, passing for a total of 647 yards and four touchdowns and running for 75 additional yards. Hankerson started twice in his FAU career, throwing for 272 yards against Rice as a freshman in 2013 and completing 12-of-18 passes for 88 yards against No. 2 Alabama last year.
A native of Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., Hankerson was a two-star recruit at Boyd Anderson High School according to both Rivals and 247 Sports. He accounted for nearly 2,500 yards of total offense and 24 touchdowns as a senior, earning All-Broward County and second-team all-state honors. He was also a basketball standout for Boyd Anderson.
