RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — AAA Mid-Atlantic says gasoline prices in Virginia have increased by 8 cents per gallon in the past week.
The auto club says the average price for a gallon of gasoline in the state on Tuesday was $2.35.
The average price in Richmond jumped by 14 cents, from $2.26 per gallon a week ago to $2.40.
Average gasoline prices also increased in Charlottesville, Norfolk and Roanoke.
Nationally, gas prices averaged $2.55, a 9-cent increase from a week ago.
Despite the increases, Virginians are paying less for gasoline than they did a year ago, when the average statewide price was $3.52 per gallon.
AAA Mid-Atlantic spokeswoman Tammy Arnette attributes the increases to rising prices for global crude and a seasonal switch to a more expensive summer blend of gasoline.
