NORFOLK, Va. – Senior Liz Riley of the Norfolk State softball team was named the MEAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon when the conference office announced its weekly softball honors.

Riley, who hails from Virginia Beach, Va., allowed just one unearned run in 14 innings in a pair of complete game victories over Coppin State last week. She allowed five hits and struck out 12 in helping NSU sweep the Eagles in a three-game series.

Riley pitched a career-best one-hitter and struck out seven while walking five in seven innings in game 2 on Thursday against the Eagles. She pitched NSU’s first shutout in almost two years in that 7-0 victory. Then on Friday afternoon in a 12-1 win, she gave up four hits and one unearned run with five strikeouts and no walks.

On the year, Riley owns a 4-10 overall record with a 3.96 ERA, having struck out 89 in 104.1 innings pitched. She ranks fourth in the league in ERA and seventh in strikeouts.

NSU will face George Mason on Wednesday on the road in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
