NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State tennis programs had 10 players named to the MEAC All-Academic Team, released by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
NSU’s total is tied for the second-most in the MEAC. Only North Carolina Central, with 11, had more among conference schools.
The Spartans split their overall total evenly between the men’s and women’s teams. Seniors Igor Braga, Daniel Grauel, Shaheed Mourillon-Swift and Alex Killam and junior Terey Hackney were honored on the men’s side. Seniors Yvonne Kamegne, Mafalda Lhorca and Krystal Scott, junior Andrea Macchiavello and sophomore Liza Gordeeva were named all-academic on the women’s side.
Both teams had five of its six eligible players named to the all-academic team.
The MEAC recognizes student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, including sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as transfer student-athletes, who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year.
The NSU women finished the year 8-11 overall and 3-3 in conference play, its first .500 or better conference record in seven years. The men posted a 7-13 mark, including 2-3 in the MEAC. Neither team advanced to this week’s MEAC tournament.
