HAMPTON, Va. – Sophomore Te’Shaibrah Myles set a new personal-best in winning the women’s pole vault for the Spartan women’s track and field team over the weekend at the Hampton University Relays.
Myles cleared 10 feet, 6 inches to win the pole vault title on Friday. She edged teammate Tiara Davis, who was second with a top height of 10-0.
NSU’s other first-place effort at the meet came from junior Kiara Howell in the discus. Her top heave went 136-1.
Sophomore De’Andra Doyle also had a strong showing in the throwing events. Doyle was third in all three events she entered. Her top marks were 107-1 in the discus, 38-6.25 in the shot put, and 96-3 in the javelin.
The Spartans posted a number of top-five finishes on the track. Fawzia Kheir took fifth in the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes, 58.19 second. She also ran a leg on NSU’s fifth-place 4×400 meter relay squad. Ra’Shaun Combs finished fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:04.13). Though she was the only competitor in the steeplechase, Rachel Webb posted the MEAC’s top time in the event this year, clocking a time of 11:31.46.
The NSU women are back in action next weekend at the Morgan State Legacy Meet in Baltimore, Md.
