Heavy snowfall dumps up to 11 inches in parts of Virginia

 

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Heavy snowfall overnight dumped up to 11 inches in some places in Virginia.

According to National Weather Service reports, the storm that began Monday afternoon dumped up to 11 inches of snow in Powhatan near Richmond and areas of Tazewell County in southwest Virginia.

Snowfall totals varied drastically across the state, with some areas getting only a few inches, while others amassed more than 8 inches.

Richmond and the surrounding area recorded between 6 and 8 inches of snow. Areas such as Roanoke and Bedford County saw up to 9 inches of snow.

In Hampton Roads, snowfall totals ranged from 2 inches in parts of Newport News to 4 inches in Virginia Beach and Norfolk.

Areas of Fairfax and Prince Williams counties in northern Virginia recorded up to 5 inches.
