RICHMOND, Va. – Host Virginia Commonwealth swept the Norfolk State women’s tennis team on the way to a 5-0 victory over the Spartans on Saturday afternoon during the second day of the VCU 4-1 Invitational.

The Rams kept NSU winless on the season by capturing all but two games in each of the three contested singles matches. VCU (4-1) also won the lone doubles match during the day’s action at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. The Spartans fell to 0-3 on the year.

The duo of Salome Kvitashvili and Olga Barscheuskaya defeated the NSU tandem of seniors Yvonne Kamegne and Krystal Scott, 6-2, 6-1, in that doubles matchup.

In singles play, sophomore Liza Gordeeva and junior Andrea Macchiavello each lost by identical 6-2, 6-0 scores. Gordeeva dropped her match at No. 1 singles against Darya Berezhnaya, while Macchiavello suffered a setback at the second singles position to Alzbeta Veverkoka.

Senior Mafalda Lhorca came up short at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2, to Alejandra de Lasa. The Rams won the fourth position by default due to NSU’s short-handed lineup.

NSU will take on Temple and Howard on Sunday on the third and final day of the invitational.
