Former President Trump Found Guilty on All 34 Counts

Former President, Donald J. Trump was convicted and found guilty of all 34 felony counts on May 30th. Trump was charged with falsifying business records, making him the first-ever president to be convicted of a felony. This also makes him the first major-party presidential nominee to be convicted of a crime halfway through the election process for the White House. According to CNN, the verdict in the hush-money trial was announced after jurors thoroughly discussed the trial for nearly twelve hours over two days.

Interestingly enough, despite Trump’s conviction in New York, he will still be allowed to have his name on the 2024 presidential ballot.  With New York being a Democratic-run state, their laws pertaining to felon voting rights are more lenient, allowing felons to vote rather than their Republican counterparts, (whom Trump would be considered a part of) which have tighter restrictions on felon voting rights.

According to CNN, Alvin Bragg, a Democrat who presented the charges against Trump last year, accused him of falsifying the repayment that his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, made to adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep her from speaking about an alleged affair with Trump before the 2016 election. CNN also noted that Trump denied the allegations against him.

Surprisingly, 20 witnesses were brought in to demonstrate to the jurors how the hush money scandal was meant to help Trump keep his name out of negative stories leading up to the Election.

During  Trump’s conviction for the hush-money scandal, he noted that the real verdict would be on November 5th, otherwise known as “Election Day” in the US.

“This was a rigged, disgraceful trial. The real verdict will be on November 5th, by the people, and they know what happened here, and everybody knows what happened here,” said Trump as he was leaving the courtroom, furiously claimed by CNN.

Trump added, “We didn’t do anything wrong. I’m a very innocent man,” as he swore to not give up.

As the election season in the US fires up, all eyes will be on what happens next in the election process when Trump goes head to head with current President Joe Biden on June 27th, for the season’s official first presidential debate held in Atlanta.
