
The Spartans were defeated by the North Carolina Central Eagles 37-10 on September 28th at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. The football matchup was an event of the 40th Annual Circle City Classic hosted by Indiana Black Expo.
The Eagles got the first touchdown of the game from a 63-yard pass from quarterback Walker Harris to wide receiver, Markell Quick, and a good kick from punter, Juan Velarde, to make the score 7-0.
Three minutes later, they got another touchdown from a 30-yard run from running back J’Mari Taylor, and another good kick, ending the quarter 14-0.
Already having the lead, the Eagles scored a field goal from Velarde within the first two minutes of the second quarter.
The rest of the quarter was slow for both teams up until the last minute and a half of the game. The Spartans got their first points of the game from a 45-yard field goal from kicker, Grandin Wilcox.
The Eagles responded with a touchdown from a 4-yard pass to tight end, Luke Bracey, with 25 seconds left in the second quarter, and ended the first half 24-3.
The teams took turns with the possession of the ball, with no one scoring at the end of their drive. The Eagles ended the no-scoring streak at the end of the third quarter with a touchdown from Quick, and then another touchdown to start the fourth quarter from a 12-yard pass to wide receiver, Chance Peterson.
To end the fourth quarter, the Spartans got their first touchdown of the game from a 10-play drive that ended with a 14-yard run from wide receiver Jacquez Jones. With the Eagles having a strong hold on the game since the start, they took the win 37-10.
Spartan leaders of the game were quarterback, Jalen Daniels with 85 passing and 73 rushing yards, and wide receiver, Kam’Ryn Thomas with 46 receiving yards. Eagles leaders of the game were Harris with 245 passing yards, Taylor with 90 rushing yards, and Quick with 124 receiving yards.
The Spartans next game will be away against the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Saturday, October 5th at 1pm in Fairfield, Connecticut.
