As of April 4th, 2024, NSU decided to rekindle its past and bring back the privilege of outside and overnight visitation.  This means that students are now allowed to have overnight visitation on weekends and can also have visitors who do not attend NSU. Originally students could not have overnight visitors due to curfew enforcements made by Housing and Residence Life. During the week students could only have fellow students visit their rooms from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. and on weekends, 12 p.m to 2 a.m. Additionally, students were only allowed visitors who attend NSU.

When asking Lenise Dupree, the Graduate Assistant of Charles Smith Hall Housing and Residence Life, about the reasoning behind the change being made this late  into the school year she answered,

“It is to allow students to be with their peers and loved ones without them having to leave off campus.”

She also added that she believes if students are responsible and follow the guidelines, the change will last saying,

“I hope it does continue to be successful so that students are allowed to have their friends and family from different areas to spend time with them. When I was a freshman, only upperclassmen students in Spartan Suites could have overnight visitation, so I am glad the school is giving all students an opportunity.”

Along with the rules stated in the graphic sent to all students (featured above), another requirement in order to have an overnight visitor is that students must now fill out a form prior to their guest staying. This form is located inside the Housing & Residence Life office inside of the Residential Complex building.  Guests may also get temporary parking decals from the parking services office located inside of the on-campus police station if needed.

As the semester comes to close, students hope to utilize these new privileges and hope that the change will remain in place for the 2024-2025 academic year.
