The Norfolk State Spartans (11-8) pick up their 11th win in the 2023-2024 season beating Virginia University of Lynchburg (0-18) 118-73. Chris Fields Jr. led the way with 31 points 6 rebounds and 3 steals. George Beale Jr. 18 points 8 rebounds.

The Spartans also break their school record by scoring the most points in a game (118) in their Division 1 Era

Norfolk State dominated the boards with 52 rebounds. The VUL Dragons tallest player was 6’5 Jahmir Brown who scored 24 points but his efforts were not enough.

The Spartans also passed the ball very well with 28 assists which led to a very dominant shooting night 58 percent from the field. “I challenge the guys to do when we play somebody for lack of a better term real, Coach Jones said. Tonight we didn’t care who got the ball, but that’s what we have to do all the time, sometimes we care too much who scores and tonight no one cared. So we have to play like that more because a couple of guys had big games and what Ive always said everyone on the team can do something, so we have to trust that because thats really our weapon that everyone can do something.”

George Beale Jr. kicked off the First half with a 3-pointer he shot 2 for 5 from the three-point line. Nyzaiah Chambers crashed the boards totaling 6 rebounds in the First Half, and finished with 13 rebounds.

The Spartans made high-IQ plays throughout the first half. Jumping passes for steals, moving the ball well offensively, and being in the right place offensively and defensively.

Chris Fields Jr. lead the way for the Spartans in the Second Half with 22 points. At the end of the game, Chris Fields Jr dunked the ball with 1 second left to get his 31 points in the game. “We were trying to get him the ball at the end, Normally I wouldn’t allow that dunk to happen but he was trying to get 30. Who knows when he will get 30 again, no one usually gets 30 around here so him getting 31 was good for him.”

Although VUL struggled throughout the whole game they managed to hit some very tough shots on the Spartans which led to VUL having 4 players with double figures in the scoring column.

The Spartans will travel to DC to take on Howard University Bison (11-8) on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 4 pm.
