NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A Norfolk official has announced that the city will offer free public Wi-Fi across the Park Place neighborhood starting this fall as part of a broader effort to improve Internet access for businesses and residents.
The city’s Chief Information Officer Steven DeBerry tells The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/22q8H5I ) that up to 7,800 people at a time will be able to use the high-speed internet.
Free Wi-Fi is already available inside Norfolk libraries and at the MacArthur Square train station, but this is the first time a Norfolk neighborhood will have free Wi-Fi.
DeBerry says the city hopes to offer Wi-Fi in at least two additional undetermined neighborhoods in the next year.
DeBerry says he doesn’t know how much the Park Place installation will cost, but he says it won’t be “astronomical.”
