
DOVER, Del. – Led by four finishers in the top 13 overall runners, the Norfolk State men’s cross country team earned a second-place finish at the Delaware State Farm Run Invitational on Thursday evening.
The race – NSU’s first 8K event of the year – had been postponed due to inclement weather from the previous Friday.
As he was in each of the Spartans’ first three meets, sophomore Haileyesus Demsie was NSU’s highest finisher at DSU. Demsie was second overall behind race winner Khalil Rmidid Kinini of UMES, running the 8,000-meter course in 26 minutes, 21.25 seconds.
Spartan freshman Tomas Fantaye made his NSU debut and was second among NSU’s finishers, in 27:47.44. Junior Desmond Fogg was close behind in 11th (27:47.87) and junior David Kibet was 13th in 28:06.80.
Freshman Joseph Wanene rounded out NSU’s top five. He placed 17th overall in 28:59.67.
UMES won the meet with 19 points, while NSU was second with 53.
The Spartans compete at the Christopher Newport Invitational this Saturday.
