NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — NATO’s only command in North America has a new leader.
Air Force General Denis Mercier assumed command as Supreme Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk on Wednesday.
Mercier takes over from French Air Force General Jean-Paul Palomeros.
In his new role, Mercier will manage the planning and execution of NATO military training and exercises. NATO’s Allied Command Transformation is currently working on supporting Exercise Trident Juncture 2015, which is scheduled to be the largest NATO exercise in more than a decade.
About 36,000 military personnel from more than 30 nations will participate in the exercise in Italy, Portugal and Spain in October and November.
